  • Course description MA Investigative Journalism will allow aspiring and established
    journalists to develop the investigative techniques and skills needed to uncover the kind of stories that win awards and change lives.
    It will offer the chance to develop practical skills and produce innovative work and research.
    The University of Glamorgan is now well-placed in the centre of the Welsh capital to allow journalists to investigate a range of stories, from politics to crime to industrial scandals. The course will be delivered by experienced investigative journalists and other specialists in their fields. There will be close examination of actual pieces of work to discover the techniques,
    tricks and pitfalls encountered.

    Course Content

    You will study the following modules:

        * Newsgathering/Writing skills to allow you to tell the often complex stories uncovered by investigative journalism.
        * Investigative Techniques
        * Law, Politics and Regulation
        * Academic Research Skills
        * Relevant Media Theory
        * Technical Skills – including video/online journalism
        * Major project – a chance to pursue an original and innovative piece of investigative journalism with the support of experts
        * Dissertation – a substantial piece of written, evidence-based research into a major issue in investigative journalism

    How To Study

    Modules will involve a mixture of lectures, seminars and project work.

    Career prospects

    The MA will give students and established journalists the skills needed to uncover important and award-winning stories. By the end of the course,
    such ability should be proven with the completion of a strong investigation, demonstrating increased value to the journalistic profession. Campaigners
    and PR professionals would also find the course extremely valuable.
