Course structures provide maximum choice based on core, pathway specific and unrestricted option modules. You will complete a dissertation as well as core and option modules.
All courses aim to give you the skills to analyse political problems and conduct research on them.
The MA in International Studies is designed to explore understandings of the nature of global politics. The importance of political relations between and across states has become very important to contemporary politics in all parts of the world, generating prominent issues and debates which this programme covers.
The kinds of themes that this degree explores are terrorism, human rights, nationalism and democratisation.

The first section examines the origins and development of the discipline throughout the 20th century, focusing explicitly on the dominance of the realist/neo-realist paradigm. The second section explores how the end of the Cold War provoked a proliferation of theories, concepts and debates in International Relations, and provides a systematic advanced examination of the development of these so-called 'post-positivist' theories.
