ObjectivesTo enhance understanding of contemporary educational issues, both national and international, for teachers in primary, secondary and post-compulsory education; to develop participants’ ability to reflect on theory in the areas of teaching and learning and use it as the basis for understanding and improving practice; to develop participants’ ability to design and undertake small scale research.
Entry requirementsNormally a good honours degree or an advanced diploma in education, and preferably at least one year teaching or equivalent educational experience.

Students may also take one option module from the Leadership and Management or Applied Linguistics programmes.
Teaching and assessment methods
Students attend weekly lectures and seminars for a total of 150 hours. Each module is assessed by a 4-5,000 word assignment. Core modules are additionally assessed by a presentation of work in progress. A 15-20,000 word dissertation is also required, based on supervised research related to an area covered by one or more modules studied.
