    The Postgraduate Framework has been set up to be flexible to suit the specific needs of the individual student. Programmes can be taken on a full- or part-time basis and can be tailored to meet your personal requirements.

    Programmes within the Framework can be studied to Postgraduate Certificate, Diploma, Masters level or even individual modules can be selected for a shorter period of study that could enhance personal and professional development.

    This 3-year multidisciplinary programme is open to professionals in Health, Social Care, Education and other relevant disciplines. It offers practitioners, trainers and managers the opportunity to develop their knowledge and skills in the area of child protection. For social workers it also offers the Advanced Award in Social Work.

    Year 1

    Postgraduate Certificate in Child Protection Studies

    Assessment in child protection
    Child protection and the legal context
    Intervention and child protection
    Practice, policy and management in child protection
    Research paradigms and child protection.

    Successful completion of this year leads to the award of the Postgraduate Certificate in Child Protection Studies.

    Year 2

    Postgraduate Diploma in Child Protection Studies

    Supervision and mentoring in child protection work
    Practice component
    Research methods.

    Year 3

    MA in Child Protection Studies
    Advanced Award in Social Work

    Students undertake a small-scale piece of original research in an area concerning child protection, which is then written up as a dissertation for assessment. Each student has a supervisor who advises on the process of undertaking the research, and students meet once a month for a seminar.
