MA Graphic Design

  • Objectives he philosophy of the course is to provide talented students with an environment in which personal and professional ambitions can be achieved. The MA celebrates the broad parameters of graphic design practice. It embraces the many aspects of graphics, i.e. new media, motion graphics, illustration, branding and graphic arts. Essentially the course is open-minded and does not seek to define graphic design but to look at the possibilities. The MA places itself as a centre for exploration and development in relationship to contemporary society. It enables students to understand their own creative position within this context. At the core of the MA are ideas; it integrates theory and practice within design. We are committed to the development of international influences in cross-cultural exchange. We aim to recruit a diverse range of talented individuals to meet and discuss ideas, giving the course an international global perspective.
  • Entry requirements Entry requirements All candidates should demonstrate their commitment to the discipline of art and design. Candidates should possess an advanced understanding of their subject through theory and practice, the ability to sustain research at MA level and an open, imaginative mind. We seek: * graphic design graduates who wish to develop as designers * graduates from other disciplines that can demonstrate an ability to appreciate and manipulate concepts of design, theory and practice * educators who are looking to extend their experiences of graphic design both theoretically and by practice * professional designers in the industry who wish to reposition themselves within the design industry. Prospective applicants should be (or about to become) graduates of a British university or equivalent institute of Higher Education. Preference will be given to good honours graduates although exceptional applicants from a non-academic background will also be considered. Applicants are also required to show a professional portfolio of work.
