MA Global Politics and Law

  • Objectives The MA in Global Politics and Law aims to investigate the interdisciplinary area between law and politics. It centres on the theme of internationalism, focusing on common intellectual themes around issues such as human rights and implications of international law, justice and democracy. You will be encouraged to take intellectual risks and use the academic resources of both disciplines.
  • Entry requirements Entry requirements A good second class honours degree in Politics, Law or social sciences and humanities, with a significant political or legal component. Students whose first language is not English must have passed either the TOEFL, a minimum of 600, (with a minimum of 4.5 in written English), TOEFL computer-based minimum of 250, or IELTS a minimum of 7, (with a minimum of 6.0 in essay writing).

    Two taught semesters followed by a dissertation.

    Core module
    Politics of International Law
    This module explores the interfaces and inter-relationships between international law and global politics by considering a number of issues and concepts from legal and political perspectives.

    The issues include internationalism; international morality; international politics; international justice; international democracy; international law; international rights; international citizenship; and international institutions and courts.

    Modules
    Options totalling 90 credits from the following. You must take at least 30 credits in each of the two disciplines.

    15-credit Law options include:
