ObjectivesThe course extends the College’s focus on challenging current practice and using design and research to change the landscape of the fashion industry, pushing boundaries in the way that fashion is identified through an innovative and proactive approach to the issues of sustainable and ethical creative development. The course is directed towards the current and future needs of the fashion industry as it undergoes significant changes in practice enabled by opportunity and necessity. It will educate fashion industry professionals who will be capable of interpreting the ethical and environmental considerations of their discipline within the context of the dilemmas of the fashion industry.
Entry requirements-A good Honours degree in a related discipline (2:1 or above) or equivalent qualification or a minimum of 3 years industrial experience at an appropriate level -IELTS level 6.5 or equivalent if English is not your first language

Course descriptionThe course offers both recent graduates and industry professionals the opportunity to focus on an individually negotiated programme of study (theory based and/or practical), which responds creatively to the opportunities, and necessities of sustainable fashion development.
The course responds to the significant industry, consumer and political demand for appropriately educated specialists who can effectively apply professional knowledge and skills related to environmentally sound fashion development in the workplace. You will critically examine the practices and processes of the fashion industry in relation to environmental considerations relevant to the contemporary global fashion industries.
Opportunity is offered via links to technical facilities and staff expertise in both new technological developments such as 2D and 3D digital design, foot scanning and body scanning technology, IT development in CAD/CAM for pattern cutting, lay planning and production in clothing, footwear and accessories as well as digital print technologies as part of the College ethos of integrating advanced technologies with traditional processes of fashion design, development and production to provide sustainable development in the fashion industry.
Links to current research and development both within London Collge of Fashion, University of the Arts London and in partnership with other Universities both in the UK and overseas will enhance your perspectives on your course and offer a cross disciplinary approach to your studies. Links with industry are inbuilt into the programme through visiting lectures, tutors and industry projects as well as through the support of the Fashion Business Resource Studio.
Contextual studies and Research methods will enable cross-fertilisation of ideas with marketing, fashion design, photography, communication and theory students, prior to the development of the proposal for your final project or dissertation The MA framework provides a supportive environment for the negotiation of your researchled Masters project individually developed through supervised self-directed study.

The significant contribution that the fashion industry makes to the UK economy and society means that it's impact on all issues to do with sustainability need to be understood and solutions and support offered. Graduates capable of creatively and professionally responding to the sustainability issues raised by the fashion industry will be highly sought in all aspects of the fashion supply chain. It will become not only an asset but also a necessity that designers, product developers, buyers and other related roles, have the ability to creatively develop product, which is strong in aesthetic, commercial and sustainable terms.
