    Course Content

This is a highly flexible course, which enables you to create your own programme of study by choosing from the broad range of elective modules offered in the School of Education.

The MA in Education comprises four modules aimed at developing personal and professional skills and understanding.

Please note that all module details are subject to change. You will be notified as to which modules will be available at the start of each semester of study period.

Towards the end of the course, you will undertake a 15,000 to 20,000-word dissertation on a subject of your choice. This provides you with the opportunity to undertake a major piece of independent research under the supervision of a suitable supervisor.

    Course Structure

The MA in Education is usually studied part-time over 2 to 4 years, although full-time participants may be accommodated by arrangement, in which case the course covers 1 calendar year.

The course is also available through the University of Nottingham Education Summer Study which allows you to study in two intensive blocks with participants from a diverse range of sectors and countries, followed by work at home. This is of benefit to those who live at a distance (including overseas) and those who find year round attendance difficult.

For students taking part in the Summer Education Study, contact with tutors is maintained through email, telephone and postal service, and students can access the electronic facilities of the library at any time and from any part of the world.

We place importance on the social aspects of the Summer Study and participants make new friends and rejoin old friends when they return for a second summer.

The course comprises four modules (worth 120 credits) with a dissertation requirement (worth 60 credits).

Unless otherwise stated, each 30-credit module is assessed by a written assignment of 5,000-6,000 words. Each assignment is graded numerically and for a student to complete the MA programme successfully, an overall pass mark of 50% must be achieved.

Our teaching uses a mixture of presentational styles and incorporates many experiential exercises and discussions in small seminar groups.

The maximum group size is approximately 25 students. Small group activities are typically conducted in groups of five or six students.

You will receive individual tuition for your curriculum development project and your research project.

We also offer a Postgraduate Certificate and Postgraduate Diploma in Education.
