MA Education

Objectives The modular programme for CPD is a flexible response to the needs of educators for a wide range of modules that can be built into a named award. We recognise that much in-service work is at postgraduate level, as many educators already have degrees and/or have developed their thinking through professional development. This modular programme offers serving teachers and others involved with Education (eg lecturers, guidance workers) a range of programmes and short courses which can support professional development.

We offer several postgraduate programmes intended for those wishing to study a specific aspect of education in more depth. A number of pathways are available leading to qualifications in the following areas: Education; Special Educational Needs; Guidance (Vocational/Educational); Raising Achievement in City Schools (run in collaboration with Bristol Local Authority (LA)); Making the Difference through Education (run in collaboration with South Gloucestershire LA); Early Years, Lifelong Learning.
Entry requirements Applicants normally have:

-an honours or pass degree, together with
-QTS or other equivalent professional qualification, or
-a teaching qualification together with substantial experience.

Up to 80 credits may be credited through Accredited Learning or Accredited
Experiential Learning.

Applicants who do not meet the minimum academic entry requirements, but have significant life and/or work experience will be considered on an individual basis.

Course description Content

You take a number of optional modules, two compulsory research methodology modules, and write a substantial research dissertation of 15,000 - 20,000 words.

-Inclusive Education and Special Educational Needs
-Subject Specialisms
-Portfolio Routes (including routes for Mentors, NQTs, Head Teachers, CPD Leaders, PSHE Leaders and SLBA).
-Cognitive Acceleration MA Module

Assessment
Only passed modules count within the programme. Assessment is by a variety of methods including written assignments, directed tasks and short presentations.
