MA Creative Collaborations

  • Objectives This innovative new course, successfully pioneered from 2004-2006, is now open to UK and overseas students. If you are interested in taking the course at the same time as continuing your professional practice, there is the opportunity to tailor your timetable and learning process to your individual needs, through the use of procedures like online contact and flexible timetabling. The wide portfolio of disciplines accommodated reflects the strengths of the School in contemporary creative industry practices. The course takes advantage of strong regional, national and international cultural industry networks.
  • Entry requirements Entry requirements Applicants are normally expected to have an Honours Degree (2.2 and above) in a subject related to the proposed Degree programme but we welcome applications from candidates with non-academic backgrounds where a proven track record of creative practice or whose relevant industry experience indicates an ability to study at postgraduate level. Applicants should be able to present evidence of project work and creative engagement in the form of a portfolio (digital or physical). IELTS 6.5 is required by applicants whose first language is not English. There is an opportunity for overseas students to enrol on the ten-week Language and Culture Bridging Programme which begins in June, providing they have secured a place on an MA course the following September. This will allow for a higher score to be achieved and for students to have Art and Design specialist tutorials in preparation for Masters study. Normally all applicants who meet the required entry standards will be interviewed. This will provide an opportunity to look around the School and meet staff. Where this is impractical for overseas applicants you may submit a portfolio of work with your application. This should include at least 12 examples of work in the form of slides, photographs, drawings, CD or emailed images with accompanying dates and descriptions of the projects and their concepts.

    Assessment is through coursework at the end of each stage.

    Resources and facilities
    The MA is hosted by the School of Art and Design, giving students access to a range of excellent dedicated facilities within the School, ranging from traditional media through to industry standard digital technology centres. Facilities are supervised by skilled technical personnel.

    How do you study?
    Lectures and seminars are delivered by NTU tutors, visiting artists and creative industry professionals.
    The course has developed a broad network of contacts with institutions, festivals, agencies and companies and strongly encourages students to engage externally as observers and participants.
    Discussion, presentation and critical debate within the broad postgraduate community of the School are supplemented by online Virtual Learning facilities and international visits.

    Study routes
    This course can be studied full-time (one year) or part-time (two years). The course commences in September each year.

    Special benefits
    For some the course will be an opportunity to consolidate a burgeoning development in their practice and to make a step-change in terms of both the ambition and profile of their work. Some students have established new companies on the course whilst others have consolidated their experience, re- focusing their practice in a new professional area.

    Graduates have participated in national and international exhibitions and performed at festivals. Others have built a professional network for their creative practice through contacts made on the course. Others have progressed into areas like teaching, events management and further postgraduate study.
