Course description
If you have a personal and/or professional interest in children and children's literature, this exciting programme offers you the opportunity to indulge in the pleasure of reading whilst developing high-level skills and understanding in literature and linguistic analysis.
You will find the course personally and professionally enriching. It will enable you to develop new and deeper insights into the world of children's literature.
The programme is unusual in that it engages as deeply with primary texts (children's books) as with academic and theoretical literature.
*There may be sessions on a Saturday morning. This is subject to timetabling and module choice.
Course Content
Stage 1
Postgraduate Certificate (PgC) 60 credits
2 modules will be chosen from a suite which includes:
* Text and Context: Exploring Intersections between Literature and Culture
* Making Sense of the World: from Folk Tale to Fantasy
* Boundaries and Transitions: Exploring Authors and Themes
* Picture Books
* Plus one other module from the suite
Stage 2
Postgraduate Diploma (PgD) 60 credits
* 1 further module from the above suite, and
* 1 module which explores Research Methods
Stage 3
Masters (MA) 60 credits
* A dissertation that is a guided study based on individual research within the chosen field.
Entry Requirements
Applications are welcome from anyone who holds an honours degree. A recognised teaching qualification is desirable but not essential.
Teaching and Assessment
Teaching is through tutor input, collaborative group work and discussion, interactive practical sessions, tutorials, presentations and private study.
Assessment includes written assignments, oral and written presentations on a thesis of about 20,000 words.

There are no specific placements associated with this programme although many students are practising teachers and there is an opportunity to develop professional practice within their work base.
