Objectives
The MA English by Research offers the opportunity to pursue in-depth research in a topic of your choice within the field of modern literary studies, relative to an area of staff expertise. While conducting your research under the close supervision of a member of staff, you will also follow the core taught module Researching Literature, which aims to communicate the skills, methodologies and theoretical concepts needed to study literature at postgraduate level.

Entry requirements
Entry Requirements: A good Honours degree in English or English-related subjects (2i or above). Non-standard qualifications and experiential learning will also be taken into account.

Course Content
Dissertation supervision is available in the following broad areas: Romanticism; 19th Century Literature; 20th Century and Contemporary Literature; Women’s Writing of the 19th and 20th Centuries; Feminist Theory; Welsh Women’s Writing; Welsh Writing in English; Gothic
Studies; Science and Literature; Literature of Travel; Religious Poetry.
How To Study
The Researching Literature module is assessed by three separate pieces of coursework totalling approximately 5,000 words. The dissertation should be 25,000-30,000 words, inclusive of footnotes and bibliography.
Career prospects
Students progress to a range of professions including teaching, public administration and publishing.
