Course description
There is a demand among students for more flexibility in the design of their Masters programme. Many students who undertake a Law degree have no intention of entering the legal profession and a Law degree is a recognised qualification for entry into many other professions such as business management, banking, human resources and international commerce.
The purpose of this course is to allow students to tailor their knowledge in an area of law of interest to them and enhance their career opportunities. Within the range available, students will be able to choose modules best suited to their own personal development or career aspirations. Depending on the specified Masters they wish to achieve, some modules will be compulsory, with the balance of credits gained from optional modules.
Alternatively, students can choose to exit with a general Masters, in which case only the dissertation module will be mandatory. If they want total flexibility, students can exit with a generic Masters, or by choosing specialist core modules they can gain an embedded award linked to a specific area (eg. LLM Commercial Law), which will enhance employability.
Course Content
You will choose from a range of options from the other LLM programmes delivered by the Law School.
How To Study
The course will be studied using a combination of lectures, workshops, tutorials and self-directed learning. The dissertation will require extensive research and innovative thinking by the student. It is proposed the programme will be offered both full-time and part-time. Full-time attendance will start in September of the academic year and will involve studying six taught modules, together with completion of the dissertation. Part-time attendance will be over a two-year or three-year programme of study. Students who undertake the programme over two years will complete the six modules in Year One, with the dissertation due in the following year. Over three years, students will complete three modules in Year One, three modules in Year Two, with the dissertation due in Year Three.
Career prospects
The discipline of law and the knowledge and skills gained present students with a number of different career paths. These include legal practice and various positions in industry, banking or finance. This tracked Masters will enable students to choose from a range of modules suited to their particular career path.
