LLM Maritime and Marine Law and Practice

  • Objectives Develop legal analytical and research skills, including synthesis, evaluation and application of relevant material Develop appropriate disciplinary methodologies to enable undertaking of a research project Develop understanding of the ethical issues connected with a research project Develop application of legal skills Provides the opportunity to study subjects associated with Maritime and Marine Law Provides the highest quality of education using appropriate learning and teaching methods Provides in-depth knowledge of Maritime and Marine Law Provides awareness of related subject areas Develops ability to use full range of learning resources Develops management and communication skills necessary to complete a substantial piece of research Develop autonomy in learning, and in producing a substantial piece of research Provide opportunity for the development of general personal skills, including group working Develop skills for further postgraduate study, or other academic work
  • Entry requirements Entry requirements A second class degree in law, or a cognate discipline, or equivalent. Overseas applicants will need: IELTS 6.5 or above or TOEFL 575 (paper-based test) or 232 (computer-based test) or 90 (internet-based test).

  • Course description Programme highlights

    The programme provides:

    -the opportunity to combine 60 credits of taught modules with a piece of supervised research
    -the possibility of concentrating the taught element into one day a week
    -the opportunity to take the LLM part time, over two years

    General programme structure

    The structure for full time study is 60 credits of taught modules and a 120 credit dissertation.  A part time LLM will also be offered.

    None of the taught modules are compulsory therefore, subject to any restrictions on combinations of subjects, the 60 credits can be made up of any module combination.
