  • Course description What will I gain from this programme?

    You will gain a specialised understanding of the relationship between sport and international regulatory frameworks, particularly the European Union.

    What will I study?

    The programme begins with a taught module providing comprehensive coverage of the key organisations whose activities affect sport, including national associations, international federations and bodies and the sports laws and policies of nation states. A case study approach is adopted, focusing on the rights of players, broadcasting issues and issues of international sports governance.

    Other modules explore general skills in producing a research proposal, suitable methods for answering research questions and ethical considerations in relation to researching sporting issues. Equipped with this knowledge, and the benefit of a module providing professional and career support, you have the opportunity to research a relevant area of your choice, with the support of a dedicated research supervisor.

    How will I study?

    A five day intensive study period involving lectures, seminars and group work. Online provision is delivered flexibly to suit your individual needs.

    The programme is delivered by recognised international sports law experts with a track record of publication, conference paper delivery and international consultancy.

    How will I be assessed?

    You will be assessed through a combination of coursework and oral examination.

    This programme will greatly enhance your career prospects whether you’re seeking employment, or already employed professionally, within sport.

    If you successfully complete 180 credits, you will be awarded an LLM in International Sports Regulation. Alternatively, if you successfully complete 60 credits of the research training modules, you will be awarded a Postgraduate Certificate in Pre-Doctoral Studies and can seek expedited access to MPhil / PhD study.

    The Postgraduate Certificate in Pre-Doctoral Studies is the supported and assisted first year programme for first year MPhil / PhD study at Edge Hill University. Although not an automatic entitlement, it is expected that successful completion of the Postgraduate Certificate will result in registration for MPhil / PhD study if you are seeking such registration.
