Legal Practice Course (Full-time)

  • Objectives This one year full-time Legal Practice Course (LPC) is a course of vocational skills training for those wishing to become solicitors.
  • Entry requirements Generally, applicants should have completed the academic stage of their training by obtaining either a qualifying law degree or the Graduate Diploma in Law (CPE) following a first degree in a non-law subject

  • Course description Programme

    The LPC equips students with the appropriate knowledge, skills and understanding of procedures and practice to embark effectively on the period of further training within a firm.

    The course structure includes:

    Foundation course: An intensive short introduction to the LPC subjects and skills.

    Compulsory subjects: Students study three compulsory subjects: Litigation (Criminal and Civil), Property Law and Practice and Business Law and Practice.

    Elective subjects: During the second part of the programme, students choose three subjects from a range of commercial and private client electives which may include Child Law, Commercial Law, Commercial Property, Commercial Litigation, Individual Employment Law, Matrimonial Practice, Personal Injury Litigation/Clinical Negligence, Sports and Media Law and Law and the Elderly Client.

    Skills: Both the Law Society and legal practitioners place great emphasis on ensuring prospective solicitors are well trained in skills. The four skills assessed on the course are Advocacy, Writing and Drafting, Practical Legal Research and Interviewing and Advising.
