ObjectivesThe course aims to develop engineers who will be able to: * Design and develop lean and competitive manufacturing facilities * Apply appropriate quality systems and tools * Evaluate and design suitable production control system * Identify and implement the requirements of a successful supply chain * Develop a skill set to identify and manage 'change' effectively * Assess manufacturing issues with respect to strategic and financial implications
Course descriptionAs manufacturing industry continues to strive to improve its competitiveness, the elimination of waste throughout the supply chain has become paramount. The Lean manufacturing philosophy and techniques, form the basis of this elimination of waste, focusing at both the holistic view of the industry and at the detailed level of the manufacturing operations.
This course aims to enhance the traditional engineering skills with the lean methodology and analysis techniques. It will also provide the students with management skills to complement their technical ability, enabling the student to take a broader perspective on manufacturing industry as a whole.
Postgraduate engineering courses have also been developed jointly between MS Ramaiah School of Advanced Studies, Bangalore, India and Coventry University. The curriculum has been developed as per Coventry University rules and regulations and complies with QAA standards. Coventry University confers the MSc Lean Manufacturing and Engineering Management degree to successful candidates. MSRSAS also conducts PhD degrees with Coventry University. The research programme is in the areas of mechanical, electronics and engineering related management.
