Academic titleLaw Society's Legal Practice Course PgD
Course descriptionThis diploma is approved by the Law Society and is a professional qualification for those who wish to qualify as a solicitor and who have completed the academic stage of legal training. This is normally achieved by having obtained an exempting/qualifying law degree; by having passed the Common Professional Examination; or being qualified as a Legal Executive.
This stimulating and rigorous programme is offered on a day release basis over two years and is taught through a combination of large group sessions and workshops. Both years commence with a one week Foundation Programme to introduce you to the demands of the programme.
The programme covers the written standards laid down by the Law Society for preparation for practice; it is assessed in accordance with Law Society requirements and currently enjoys a Law Society ‘Good’ rating.
Skills development forms an important part of the programme, with ample opportunity to practice prior to assessment. Skills are assessed evenly throughout the programme on a competent/not yet competent basis.
Skills practice is carried out in small groups in a simulated office or in the School’s excellent courtroom. Portable video equipment is available to give you the chance to reflect on your performance in practical exercises.
In the second half of year two you complete the course by studying two modules from a choice of six. These modules will meet your needs whether you plan to practice in a small, medium sized or larger commercial environment.
