Law and Economics LLM

  • Entry requirements The programme is designed to be suitable for students with backgrounds in either law or economics.
  • Academic title Law and Economics LLM
  • Course description Course description

This programme covers the use of economics to analyse law, to evaluate alternative approaches to solving legal problems and to improve different legal systems. It is based on an Erasmus Mundus Consortium ("The EMLE Consortium") although the Erasmus University of Rotterdam returns responsibilities for Erasmus Mundus matters in which Manchester participates along with several other European universities. The programme is standard across the whole network and involves a sequence of compulsory course units on the economic analysis of law. All teaching and assessment exercises are conducted in English.  The programme is currently co-ordinated by the University of Hamburg. The programme is structured in three trimesters.

The EMLE consortium was one of the first to be awarded Erasmus Mundus recognition and the European Commission has rated its programme very highly. Admission onto the programme and the payment of fees are centralised and operated on a common basis.

Teaching is by a mixture of lectures and smaller group classes.
