Course descriptionThis course route has been developed to equip people with the skills, knowledge and capabilities to deliver the National Service Frameworks for Mental Health. This is run on a study day basis and is targeted at people from a wide range of backgrounds responsible for the provision of mental health services. As a graduate of this course you will be better equipped to contribute to your profession using an interprofessional focus.
What is the course content?
The course consists of eight modules and a dissertation. A postgraduate diploma is awarded to you upon successful completing 8 modules to the value of 120 credits; each module has a value of 15 credits. If you wish to be awarded the MSc you will need to successfully complete 12 modules to obtain a value of 180 credits plus a dissertation.
What are the entry requirements?
If you are a mental health or social care practitioner, a manager in nursing, medicine, social work, the justice system, occupational therapy or working in the statutory, voluntary or independent sector of health and social care with a bachelors degree, though candidates who can demonstrate by professional qualifications and/or experience of mental health and social care their ability to undertake the course will be considered.
How long is the course?
The course will run on a part time basis of a day a week for two years.
The first modules are studies over a 10-week term, the first module is taken in the morning and the second module runs in the afternoon of the same day.

Professional Accreditation - Social work
City University have received approval from the General Social Care Council for the following awards:
General Social Care Council post qualifying awards in respect of MSc/PG Dip in Interprofessional Practice: Child and Adolescent Mental Health
* MSc in Interprofessional Practice - Advanced Award in Social Work (Children, Young People, Families and their Carers)
* Post Graduate Diploma - Interprofessional Practice - Higher Specialist Award in Social Work (Children, Young People, Families and their Carers)
General Social Care Council post qualifying awards in respect of MSc/PG Dip in Interprofessional Practice: Society, Violence and Practice
* MSc in Interprofessional Practice - Advanced Award in Social Work (Adults)
* Post Graduate Diploma in Interprofessional Practice: Higher Specialist Award (Adults)
Social workers who choose to take either of the above MSc routes will be eligible to register for the above post-qualifying awards in addition to their academic award.
We are currently in the process of applying for post-qualifying award approval of our MSc Interprofessional Practice Mental Health route.
Bursaries may be available for registered social workers.
