International and Commercial Law, LLM

  • Objectives The programme equips students to: * Understand the substantive legal principles in public international and corporate law * Understand the substantive legal principles in a chosen area of study offered within the programme * Present findings and conclusions by means of an independent piece of academic research
  • Entry requirements Entry Requirements A first degree in law with a a minimum of 2.2 (or equivalent) from a recognised home (UK/EU) or overseas university. If an applicant’s first or main language is not English, an IELTS minimum score of 6.5 or TOEFL minimum score of 575 (paper-based) or 232 (computer-based)

  • Course description With the growing importance of world trade, lawyers are expected to look beyond national jurisdictions and understand issues of public international law and international commercial law. Legal employers now place a high premium on graduates with international commercial law skills.

    This programme focuses on the law and legal framework governing the international community, as well as various legal issues surrounding international trade and global markets.

    The LLM offers a flexible programme of study by providing two core taught courses (Public International Law and Corporate Law) and one other taught course selected by the student from a range of options. The student is also required to produce a 15,000 word dissertation on a specific topic, supervised by a member of staff.

    As part of the compulsory component, the student is also required to pass the Foundations for Postgraduate Study and Research course, as well as Research Methods in Law.

    * Subject to appropriate supervisory arrangements, applicants from overseas may be allowed to complete their dissertation in their home country
