ObjectivesThis programme aims to provide you with knowledge and understanding of substantive intellectual property law in its European and international context and to equip you with the theoretical framework necessary to analyse critically the intellectual property law regime. This is a qualifying programme that will provide students with the skills and knowledge required for practice. Its focus is on UK law and policy within a European, International and comparative context. It provides a thorough grounding in substantive intellectual property law and the economic, social and theoretical basis of the subject. Students will follow a fixed course of study and, having successfully completed the programme, will gain exemptions from the CIPA and ITMA Foundation Papers.
Entry requirementsEntry requirements: A minimum Upper Second Class honours degree in a science-based subject.

Students on this programme undergo an entirely prescribed course of study, comprised of the following course units:
SEMESTER ONE: Trade Mark Law & Policy (30 credits); and Patent Law & Policy (30 credits)
SEMESTER TWO: Copyright Law & Policy (15 credits); Industrial Design Law (15 credits); Unfair Competition Law (15 credits); and International Aspects of Intellectual Property Law (15 credits).
Prior to the teaching and delivery of these core course units, all students will attend a full week (eleven lectures, each of two hours duration) of "foundation lectures", to provide an introduction to general legal framework principles.
Progression and assessment
Course units are assessed by standard methods - usually one written examination.
