Heythrop College
Heythrop is a specialist college offering undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in Theology, Philosophy, the combination of the two and combined Psychology degrees. All degrees awarded at Heythrop College are degrees of the University of London.
The College has among its lecturers some of the leading thinkers in their fields and its Library is possibly the finest of its kind in the U.K.
In virtue of its specialist character, Heythrop can offer a unique learning environment.
In particular, the College offers an unusually high level of personal supervision through the running of a one-to-one tutorial system. This provides an invaluable complement to lecture courses by giving students the opportunity to discuss their work in detail with their teachers.
Like most of the colleges at Britain's oldest universities, Heythrop was originally a religious foundation, set up in 1614 by the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits) to train its own members. Since 1970 it has been a college of the University of London, open to all.
After many moves in its nearly 400-year history, Heythrop is now situated in Kensington Square, an oasis of calm in one of the world's busiest capital cities, yet within a minute's walk of the underground, buses, cafes, bars, cinemas, and high-street stores.
Heythrop is also the Lead College for the University of London External Programme's Bachelor of Divinity degree and Diploma in Theology.
