  • Objectives This programme aims to provide a thorough knowledge of contemporary immunology at the cellular and molecular level and an insight into the ways in which this can help in immunodiagnosis and the control and treatment of disease.
  • Entry requirements Entry requirements: A minimum Lower Second class honours degree, or the overseas equivalent, in a bioscience, medical, dental or veterinary subject. An applicant may also be exceptionally accepted based on evidence of previous advanced study, research or professional experience, which the University accepts as qualifying for entry

  • Course description Course description

    The immune system and how it functions properly is essential for health by providing resistance to infection and eliminating malignancy. Increasingly, it is appreciated that malfunction of the immune system is involved in a wide variety of disease states including autoimmunity, allergies and immunodeficiency. An exciting new development is attempting to harness the immune system as treatments for cancer.

    It is now accepted that a detailed understanding of the immune system is required for the design of effective vaccines and treatment of diseases in both industrialised and developing countries.

    Module details

    Typical compulsory course units include: Immune Physiology; Immunogenetics; Autoimmunity; Infection and Tumour Immunity; Clinical Immunity and Transplantation; Workplace and Communication Skills. Learning Is through lectures, tutorials, self-directed group based learning and computer based learning.
