Human Geography (Graduate Certificate - Graduate Diploma)
ObjectivesIf you already possess a background in geography but would like to update your understanding of the changing nature of the subject, including the economic and social geography of Britain and the European Union, then this programme is what you are looking for. It provides an opportunity to get to grips with the principles of geographical information systems, contemporary debates about globalisation, development, the changing nature of British cities and various aspects of planning at both regional and urban levels.
Entry requirementsEntry requirements Degree in geography, or with geography or other related subject. Other qualifications may be taken into consideration.
Course descriptionGraduate Certificate: complete two modules (worth 30 credits each), to a total of 60 credits.
Graduate Diploma: complete two modules, plus an independent geographical study (worth 60 credits), to a total of 120 credits.
Modules are chosen from:
-Environment and Development in the Global South
-Globalisation in the Contemporary World
-Principles of Geographical Information Systems
-Regional Economic Development and Policy in the European Union
-Urban and Regional Environments and Planning.
Teaching
Teaching methods are wide-ranging. Depending on the options you choose, you may participate in fieldwork, computer-based analysis, seminars, group work and lectures.
Assessment
A combination of unseen examinations and coursework.
