Course description
Course Description:
The MSc in Housing is a challenging course, which provides students with the range of skills, capacities and expertise needed by housing professionals in the 21st century. The main objectives of the course are to engage students with the complexities of housing problems, and to provide them with the range of skills required for becoming reflective and responsive practitioners. The course also promotes good practice, and gives students an understanding of the needs and demands of housing consumers. A range of people contribute to the lectures, seminars, workshops and project work that make up the programme: policy makers, housing practitioners, committee members, tenants and consultants, as well as academic staff. The teaching approach is progressive and varied with emphasis placed on student contributions, collaborative group work and project work.
Assessment is by a wide variety of methods including group and individual work, essays, reports, projects, presentations and examinations. The aim is to provide students with varied opportunities to test their skills and demonstrate their capabilities.
RTPI Recognition:
The Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) recognises a variety of different types of course. All recognised courses are categorised as: combined planning courses; spatial planning courses; or specialist planning courses.
You may combine a spatial planning course and a specialist planning course as a pathway to an RTPI-recognised planning education. The BSc in City and Regional Planning is a recognised spatial planning course. The MSc in Housing is recognised as a specialist planning course.
Special Features:
* Recognised by the Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH), which means that students successfully completing the programme are fully exempted from the examinations for the Professional Qualifications of the CIH and are eligible to become corporate members of the Institute after completing the practical experience requirements
* Recognised by the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) as a 'specialist' Masters for those who have completed at least a three-year RTPI recognised undergraduate degree in planning, allowing completion of the RTPI's educational requirements for membership.
