Course description
HND Biomedical Science
Programme
-Year 1 looks at fundamental principles of biochemistry, as well as issues such as human disease prevention and treatment, and molecules and cells in health and disease. It introduces you to the principles of immunology and infection emphasising the clinical significance of the basic concepts. It investigates how human form relates to human function as the body ages. Year 1 also introduces, and expands on, the key skills necessary for the successful study of healthcare science.
-Your second year provides a deeper understanding of the biological principles underlying human disease. You develop an appreciation of the major concepts of immunology and explore the cellular and molecular basis of the normal immune response. Year 2 considers the role of the medical laboratory in the assessment of disease, and the importance of an interdisciplinary approach to medical diagnosis and patient care. You will also be able to practice investigative techniques used in immunology, haematology and cellular pathology.
