Healthcare (Advanced Practice) MSc

  • Objectives This innovative MSc programme is structured around learning within your workplace. The Faculty works with you and your employer to define a strategic problem and personal development plan that reflects your current role and developments within the service. Applicants are normally expected to be in evolving/new roles associated with service developments and modernisation, and you will need support from your line manager and senior managers in your employing organisation in order to undertake the programme.

  • Course description This programme is offered within the NHS Education Contract to qualified health and social care practitioners in southwest London. Applications from other staff employed outside the southwest London area will also be considered on a fee-paying basis subject to availability of places.

    What will you study?
    This interprofessional, flexible programme is structured to provide core and optional modules, and includes the opportunity to contstruct a work based learning contract tailored to the student's work place and learning that is required for their developing role. Illustrative routes and individual guidance will assist each student with their preferred choice of options which may be selected from across the Faculty postgraduate portfolio.

    In particular the programme offers an opportunity for nurses to work towards the current NMC approved Advanced Nurse Practitioner competencies, Case Manager and Community Matron competencies.

    Students will be exposed to a variety of educational approaches and will be encouraged to view learning as a lifelong process. Reflection is emphasized throughout the course to enhance the integration of theory and practice.

    Research areas
    Many of our staff in the Faculty of Health and Social Care Sciences are research active, often in partnership with NHS Trusts. This ensures they are in touch with the latest thinking and bring best practice to your studies.
