Graduate Diploma Psychology

  • Entry requirements Entry requirements Normally you need • a second class honours degree and to have previously studied at least 60 credits (at undergraduate level) of psychology as part of a single honours or joint degree course, equivalent to six months previous study or • at least a second class honours degree and either successful completion of the Open University course DSE212 or 60 credits of undergraduate psychology from a recognised UK university

  • Course description This course is for non-psychology graduates who have some previous study in psychology, including joint psychology degrees not accredited by the British Psychological Society (BPS).

    There is no provision for you to gain credit for previous study in psychology. But, if you have studied one of the modules (or its equivalent) as part of an undergraduate degree, you can choose an alternative, appropriate optional module from our BSc (Honours) Psychology.

    After graduating and registering with the BPS, you can apply for a place on professional or postgraduate courses in areas such as clinical, educational and forensic psychology.

    If you do not fulfil all the requirements for the Graduate Diploma, it may be possible to obtain a Graduate Certificate in Psychology. There is a minimum requirement for this award which should be discussed with your tutor.

    Associated careers

    Previous graduates have begun careers such as management information officer and assistant psychologist with organisations such as the London Ambulance Service and Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust.

    Course content


    The combination of modules you study, partly depends on the previous credits you gained in psychology.

    You finish the course by designing and implementing a research project under the supervision of a member of academic staff.
