  • Entry requirements students with an undergraduate degree or equivalent who wish to spend one year in a mathematics department of a UK university or who may not be immediately eligible for entry to a higher degree in the UK.

    - an intensive course preparing students for further study at MSc and PhD level and for work in the non-academic sector.
    - a flexible course allowing students to plan an individual programme.
    - a transitional course providing students with an excellent opportunity to upgrade their degree in Mathematics.

    You will attend eight of the modules currently offered to BSc, MSci and MSc in Mathematics students. Subject to timetable constraints, considerable choice is possible. Modules available (subject to annual change): Real Analysis; Complex Analysis; Geometrical Structures; Galois Theory; Topology; Logic; Special Relativity and Electromagnetism; Introductory Quantum Theory; Space-time Geometry & General Relativity; Non-linear Dynamics; Financial Mathematics; Operational research I; Linear Systems with Control Theory; Introduction to Linear Systems with Control Theory; Introduction to Supersymmetry; Lie Groups and Lie Algebras; General Relativity; Point Particles and String Theory; Quantum Mechanics; Manifolds, Neural networks; Operator Theory; Fourier Analysis; Joint-honours Algebra; Applied Analytic Methods; Project (mathematical topic).

    Programme format and assessment
    At least eight taught modules assessed by written examinations and one individual project of approximately 10,000 words.

    One year FT, two years PT, September to June.
