  • Course description Content

Events Management emerged as a distinctive sub-discipline of leisure, tourism and marketing and has grown rapidly in recent years. The number of organisations involved in the industry has not only grown in the UK but also internationally. A growing number of freelancers are involved and there is an expanding market for small business enterprises.

The types of events provided now include corporate, private and not-for-profit activities, exhibitions and trade shows, financial and stakeholder communications and public relations activities. As the capital city, London has been the focus of much of this growth and the geographical position of the College is at the heart of the industry.

    Structure

One of the first units students will encounter is 'Event Planning and Operations’. It will provide you with the range of theoretical skills needed to research, plan and implement a wide range of events in lecture, cultural, commercial and tourism contexts. There is a particular emphasis on planning and project management techniques throughout the lifecycle of an event. In addition, students will apply and develop human resource management, budgetary control, visitor management and health and safety legislation to an increasingly complex range of event scenarios.

The second unit is Event Marketing and Enterprise. The Events Industry comprises three distinctive sub-sectors: community and arts events; commercial sports and entertainment events and marketing activities which stimulate brand engagement opportunities. This unit explores the scope and breadth of the industry and encourages the student to develop a strategic approach to managing them. Students will have the opportunity to acquire practical marketing planning/promotional skills.
