ObjectivesThis is a pre-Masters programme for international students who want to do a bridging course before starting a Masters course in art, media or design. It is a one-semester course that starts in June, and prepares you for study on a wide range of art, media and design-related Masters courses. You can choose to study only the pre-Masters course, or you can choose to do the pre-Masters in conjunction with either 1, 3, 6, 9 or 12 months of pre-course English. The course encourages creative experimentation, innovation, and exploration, develops understanding of research methods and offers specialised knowledge in a specific area of art media and design practice. Gallery visits and seminars will introduce you to a broad range of contemporary art and design practices. English language classes focus on language improvement and independent academic study skills are developed. The course is located in the Sir John Cass Department of Art Media and Design, which is centred at the heart of Europe's highest concentration of artists and one of the world's leading art centres. We offer a range of state-of-the-art facilities, including digital imaging, film, photography, computer-aided design, printmaking, painting, furniture, ceramics, jewellery, silversmithing, conservation and music technology.
Entry requirementsYou need to have either: a bachelors degree from overseas (any subject); or a diploma from an overseas University in an art design-related subject; or a diploma from an overseas University (any subject), plus some relevant professional/work experience. You need to have English equivalent to IELTS 5.5. Those with lower levels usually do the following: - IELTS 5 or TOEFL 500: 1 to 3 months of English followed by Pre-Masters - IELTS 4.5 or TOEFL 450: 3 to 6 months of English followed by Pre-Masters - IELTS 4 or TOEFL 400: 6 to 9 months of English followed by Pre-Masters - Lower levels of English: 9 to 12 months of English followed by Pre-Masters

Course descriptionCourse structure
Creative Practice - practise-based seminars, critical reflection, problem-solving and presentations that develop communication skills and provide creative studio practice opportunities in a range of art, media and design subject pathways. Research methods modules help you to design a project.
English for Art Media and Design - English language and vocabulary study, including English for academic purposes, presentation, comprehension and communication skills, writing skills, plagiarism, referencing and bibliographies, seminar participation and group work.
Assessment
Assessment is by coursework and examination.
