  • Course description The rapid developments in global finance have brought about the need for this programme that studies these changes indepth and prepares students to go on to management roles in the financial sector or in financial roles within a business.

Changes such as the collapse of the Bretton Woods system, rise of the OPEC nations, expansion of the WTO and the hugely significant changes happening in many individual nations have all had massive impact on global finance and those organisations that choose to operate in a multinational environment.

    The programme critically analyses:
    # The internationalisation of financial markets and the products they provide.
    # The emergence of new markets and market collapses.
    # The function of a corporate treasury department in a transnational company.
    # Global corporate governance and ethical issues.
    # Strategic investment decisions and analysis of risk.
    # Investment analysis.
    # Performance measurement and financial
    # performance indicators.

The modules comprising the programme are:
    # Global Financial Markets
    # Strategic Investment, Financing and Risk Management
    # Investment and Performance Analysis

    Personal and Professional Development
The Global Financial Management programme now offers a residential (included in the programme fee), which is designed to mark the launch of each student's own Personal and Professional Development (PPD) programme.

This allows students to identify their current strengths, weaknesses and development needs and puts together a personalised programme of development for individuals to use during their studies and beyond. There are a series of diagnostic tests, which allows individuals to identify their leadership potential. The residential which is run by professional leadership coaches is a key part of the academic programme.

Students on this programme will also receive their own copy of the programme's Customised Learning Support texts. Through our partnership with Pearson Education (Pearson Publishing, FT, Prentice Hall, Harvard Press, etc.) we were able to produce and distribute customised texts for all of our taught modules at postgraduate level - making the learning experience here even more tailored to your needs!

    COURSEWORK AND ASSESSMENT
    ASSESSMENT
A variety of assessment techniques are used to help develop different skills. After two taught semesters students undertake a piece of individual research in a business-related topic leading to the production of a dissertation that will normally not exceed 15,000 words.
