Gender, Sexuality, Politics and Culture (MA - MSc)
ObjectivesThis MA/MSc addresses key debates in the study of gender and sexuality from an interdisciplinary, cross-cultural perspective. Themes and methodologies are developed in depth from a range of viewpoints. You can examine diverse representations – for example in policy, film, advertising, literary and documentary materials – through a choice of option modules. These include modules in literature, history, media studies, sociology, law, politics, psychology and economics. You will also consider competing theories and approaches to gender and sexuality, and explore the ways in which these intersect with concepts of race, ethnicity, age and class. The degrees will deepen your awareness of how gender and sexual politics shape our understanding of the world and may contribute to your professional development. These interdisciplinary degrees are flexibly designed to maximise student choice and you may opt for either an MA or MSc route. Course descriptionThe programme is made up of two core modules, a choice of special subjects and a dissertation.
All students take the core module Theorising Gender, and then choose between Masculinities/Femininities (for the MA route) and Gender and Politics (for the MSc route). You then choose from a range of special modules that vary annually.

Assessment
Normally one essay per module; dissertation (15,000 words).
