  • Entry requirements There are no entry requirements but students should be working in or preparing to take on the responsibility of care.
  • Course description Student Profile:

    This programme is designed for people who wish to gain an understanding of the requirements and role of working in a care environment and to contribute effectively to the work of a care team whether providing residential or home based care and support.

    Study Method:

    This course can be studied at you own pace in the comfort of your own home or workplace. There are no deadlines for assignments however you do have to complete the full course within 12 month from the date you purchased it.

    Assessment:

    Assessment takes the form of a series of tutor marked assignments plus a multi-choice style end-test which you send to your tutor for marking. There is no word count for the assignments however you must prove to the tutor that you fully understand the questions, one sentence answers will not be accepted for the assignments. This is no final exam.

    Accreditation:

    Programmes are accredited by ASET enabling students to gain a nationally recognised qualification on successful completion of the assessments.

    Course Outline

    The course comprises seven study units, each with self-assessment and tutor marked assignment questions to enable students to measure progress and relate their studies to a specific employer or care setting.

        * Dealing with accidents & emergencies

    Unit 4: Effective Communication


        * Forms of communication
        * Communication skills
        * Overcoming communication barriers
        * Encouraging communication

    Unit 5:
    Understanding & Dealing with Abuse and Neglect

        * Types of abuse & neglect
        * Signs, symptoms and effects of abuse and neglect
        * Responding to allegations
        * Reducing the risk

    Unit 6: Basic Care Skills


        * Maintaining clients’ personal hygiene
        * Dietary needs
        * Toileting needs
        * Prevention & treatment of pressure sores

    Unit 7: Proving Support for Individuals

        * Leisure & recreational needs
        * Supporting clients through change
        * Supporting clients through loss
