Foundation Route to MSc (E-Learning) Computer Science
ObjectivesTo prepare students who have a background in Science and Engineering, but no knowledge of Computing, for an Advanced MSc in Computer Science.
Entry requirementsThe foundation route is specifically for students who have a good degree in a Science or Engineering subject but little formal training in Computer Science at degree level. In the first year of the programme students study a number of modules (minimum two maximum four) through e-learning, enabling overseas students to study the first year in their home country. Subject to satisfactory completion of the first year modules, students then join us in Manchester on one of our advanced programmes. One of the foundation units is credited to your MSc.
Course descriptionThe programme is over a two year period, thus enabling overseas applicants with low levels of English Language to take additional English courses to raise their competency levels prior to the second year of advanced study in the UK.
Module details
The course units you need to study will be selected by the course director of your intended MSc programme. Curse units include:
-Programming in C
-Introduction to software development in Java
-Object Oriented Analysis & Design with UML
-Databases and Data Modelling
Teaching and learning
The first year is spent acquiring knowledge as a pre-requisite to the second year when succesful students move onto a full MSc Advanced programme. The first year of this programme is delivered entirely through the use of e-learning.
