Course description
Modules: BSc Financial Economics
Year 1
The first year of study is designed to provide all students with a thorough grounding in the principles and applications of economics, and in mathematics and statistical methods. You will study seven core modules and one mathematics module.
Core modules include:
* EC1008 Introduction to Microeconomics
* EC1009 Introduction to Macroeconomics
* EC1003 Topics in Applied Microeconomics
* EC1004 Topics in Applied Macroeconomics
* Data Analysis 1 and 2
* Post A Level Mathematics and Further Mathematics
Year 2
In the second year the core skill areas are developed further by comprehensive, advanced training in micro and macro economic theory, in econometrics and in mathematical analysis.
Core modules:
* Intermediate Microeconomics 1 and 2
* Intermediate Macroeconomics 1 and 2
* EC2017 Introductory Econometrics
* EC2018 Intermediate Mathematical Methods
* EC2019 Global Financial Markets
* EC2010 Money and Banking
Year 3
In the final year, all students will take :
* EC3017 Applied Econometrics
* EC3013 Financial Economics
* EC3010 Corporate Finance
* EC3012 International Finance
* EC3011 Introduction to Financial Derivatives
In addition, three elective modules may be taken from the following list, two of these could be accounted for by undertaking supervised research on a topic relevant to the filed of financial economics:
* EC3009 Research Project (counts as two electives)
* EC3015 Regulation and Competition
* EC3016 Monetary Economics
* EC3019 Labour Economics
* EC3020 The Economics of Addiction
* EC3021 Development Economics
* EC3022 Industrial Economics
* EC3023 History of Economic Thought
* EC3026 Economics of European Integration
Teaching involves lectures and small group seminars in which you have the opportunity to discuss the content of lectures or coursework with a member of staff. You will also have a personal tutor to help you with any academic or personal issues that arise.
Assessment
You will be assessed throughout the programme by coursework and by examinations. In the final year there is also an assessed research project. Your final degree classification will depend on results from coursework and examinations in your first, second and final years.
