Objectives
Holistic therapies have been thriving over the last decade, mostly via the private sector such as spas and wellness centres as well as aromatic products sold in supermarkets & health shops. The report by the House of Lords select committee (2000) acknowledged the increase in consumer uptake of such therapies and recommended the three groupings for associated therapies derived from the amount of evidence generated to support their effects on health. The group two therapies which include aromatherapy, massage and reflexology – the three therapies to be offered within this degree, have sufficient evidence to support their use for relief of stress, relaxation and improved feelings of wellbeing. As many modern day illnesses are cited in the literature as stress related, these therapies should play a major role in reducing NHS admissions and improving a client’s sense of wellbeing.
