Objectives
This highly practical programme includes the study, analysis and performance of different musical styles. The course offers students the opportunity to develop their compositional skills to a high standard, develop improvising techniques and emphasises the importance of music technology as a compositional tool, particularly in terms of music for media.

* Core skills - Classical and jazz theory, education workshops and theatre reviews
* Music Design - modal music to classicism, origins of jazz
* Performance - stylistic performance techniques, improvisation, directing, solo, ensemble
* Theoretical & Contextual Studies - Stylistic history, harmony and social contexts
* Professional Studies - IT Law & Copyright / production theory / music industry
* Music Technology - music publishing software, sequencing and recording tools
* Music & Media - composing music for TV, film, animation and other various media including theatre and dance
* Project (Portfolio) and Analysis - composition portfolio
Year 2
* Music Design - 19th Century styles, commissioned writing, jazz post 1940s, stylistic interpretation
* Theoretical & Contextual studies - stylistic history, harmony and social contexts
* Professional Studies - Internet, arts councils and funding, contract law, management, publicity and marketing
* Final Project - large-scale commissioned composition or performance
* Project Commentary and analysis
