Course descriptionWho is this course for?
Students with an interest in Fashion and a desire to learn and explore a range of basic sewing techniques that are used in making up garments.
What qualifications or experience do I need ?
Any students welcome with a suitable interest/background in Fashion or employment experience. However for 6, 12 and18 Units Four GCSE's Grade C or above are desirable or BTEC First Diploma or GNVQ Intermediate in a related subject. Prior experience for mature students will be considered.
What will I study ?
Learners will explore: *Properties and characteristics of different fabrics & fibres used. *Basic construction techniques to fabric properties and fitness for purpose. *Skills and safe operation of machinery for sample production. *Basic Machine construction techniques, eg, Seams, pockets, waistband, zip insertion, edge finish for hems, interlining, joining garment parts.

What qualifications could I achieve ?
College Certificate. Also opportunity for credits against Foundation Dgeree modules
What can the course lead to ?
Progression onto further Foundation Degree modules, a full time course or training/employment

Are there any extra costs for equipment/materials ?
Throughout the duration of the course students will need to purchase a ringbinder and plastic pockets to file and compile samples. Tutor to advise.
