The programme is aimed at professionals who have key technical and functional experience, but who seek the breadth of business and management knowledge needed to develop their careers in the direction and at the speed required. Course description
Innovatively tailored to meet the needs of North Wales’ management professionals and high-flyers, the Management Centre’s new Executive MBA Programme is designed to provide a challenging and flexible learning experience.
Course structure
The programme is offered part-time. The course has a minimum duration of two and a half years although we would expect most students to complete within three.
Executive MBA students attend a combination of evening, afternoon and weekend sessions over each of the two semesters each year.
There are three stages in the Executive MBA Programme:
* core compulsory modules that build knowledge and skills across key business and management disciplines and fields;
* optional specialist streams aimed at ‘implementation/application’ and ‘project management’ within either public sector or SME management including innovation/entrepreneurship;
* an individual project based on a real project in the student’s place of work.
The programme starts in mid-September each year with a three day introductory module aimed at building study skills and imparting the MBA ethos, starting the process of ice breaking and group working, and sorting out domestic and technical matters prior to commencing the course.
The programme is taught in two semesters each year. Students will normally complete three modules each semester. Hence, over two years they will complete the required 12 modules comprising the core and specialist streams.
Two modules are taught in parallel and teaching is timetabled over ten weeks on Tuesday evenings and Friday afternoons each week. The third module is taught over four days in concentrated weekend blocks.

Specialist Stream options (1 module from):
* Public sector management stream
The public sector touches all our lives and has undergone major changes in recent years. It has been at the forefront of developing innovative management practices in a demanding range of political and social contexts. This module explores the complex and challenging world of public sector management and engages the student in the issues of managing and developing effective, efficient and responsive public services.
* Entrepreneurship and small enterprise management stream
Entrepreneurs and small firms are the lifeblood of an economy, and make an increasing contribution to innovation, wealth creation and employment. This module provides a detailed insight into the entrepreneurship and the role of small firms within the economy. It explores the process of establishing a venture from idea generation to the completion of a business plan. It then takes the student through the process of developing a business plan and its different components, including business description and the market; development and production; sales and marketing; management team and the financial plan.
Dissertation/Project (1 module)
The Dissertation or Project will normally be based on an investigation relating to a student's workplace or a more general work related issue. It is a significant piece of work requiring diverse skills in problem identification, definition, methodology selection and development, data collection, data analysis, synthesis and the development of conclusions and recommendations based on clearly articulated objectives. Normally, students will have a work based mentor and will be under the supervision of an appropriate academic from within the Management Centre. Word length is between 12,000 and 20,000 words.
