MA Culture, Diaspora, Ethnicity

  • Objectives The MSc/PgDip/PgCert Ethnicity, Migration, Policy programme is orientated towards key debates in socal policy, while the MA/PgDip/PgCert Ethnicity Globalisation, Culture is more concerned with interdisciplinary debates more closely associated with sociology and cultural studies. This programme addresses the centrality of ethnicity to policy and social relations, particularly in the key areas of migration, asylum and citizenship, policing, education, and race relations legislation. Differing theoretical perspectives and policy debates are addressed to build an understanding of how policies have developed and of the forces that continue to shape ongoing policy development. The programme will be of particular interest if you work in central or local government, education, social, health or housing services or diversity management.
  • Entry requirements Entry requirements Good degree in social sciences, humanities or a relevant subject. Recent professional qualification and work experience may also be considered.
  • Academic title Ethnicity, Migration, Policy (MSc / Postgraduate Diploma / Postgraduate Certificate)
  • Course description All students start with the core module, Key Concepts of 'Race' and Ethnicity Studies, and have the opportunity to pursue particular relevant areas through option choice and dissertation topic. Option modules vary from year to year.

    Teaching
    A range of participatory teaching and learning methods, such as lectures, student-led teaching seminars, one-to-one tutorials and supervision.

    Assessment
    By coursework, although assessment formats may vary depending on option modules selected.

    A dissertation of 10,000–12,000 words for the MSc.

    When to apply

    -Interviews from March onwards.
    -Late interviews in September, subject to availability of places.
