Academic titleEnvironmental & Climate Change Master in Science by Research
Course descriptionThe last 30 to 40 years have witnessed dramatic changes in weather patterns and climate. Superimposed on changes in climate are a number of human impacts which are in part responsible for changing climate and weather patterns but also modify the way in which the physical environment responds to climate change.
Future prospects
The Masters by Research Programme in Environmental and Climate Change will appeal to those students who have an interest in recent environmental change especially in relation to historical climates and projected climate change scenarios and will equip graduates to take up research/consultancy positions with appropriate private/government agencies (eg ADAS, DEFRA, EA). The programme will also prepare students contemplating progress to MPhil and/or PhD training programmes
Course content
This course is designed to equip students with the advanced research skills required to support a substantive piece of original research in a chosen aspect of Environmental or Climate Change. Potential research projects relevant to the programme include; an analysis of historical climate data, analysis of the relationship between North Atlantic circulation patterns and European climate change, palaeoenvironmental reconstruction of the impacts of changing weather patterns on water resources and soil erosion.
