Course descriptionThe English Language Teaching in Professional Contexts MA degree provides professional development for English language teachers. Whilst balancing theory and practice, this course aims to develop skills in language description and analysis with access to some of the most recent and relevant English language corpora.

Course content
Students on the English Language Teaching in Professional Contexts MA will:
* Consider theory and practice relating to the use of English in professional settings, and the teaching and learning of English for professional life.
* Develop skills in the evaluation and design of teaching and learning materials for English for Specific Purposes (ESP) and English for Academic Purposes (EAP), including Business English.
* Explore the role played by new technologies for learning, teaching and communicating.
* Analyse the written and spoken genres of specific discourse communities, for example business meetings, research articles and academic lectures.
* Have opportunities to practise teaching and observe experienced teachers in a variety of face-to-face and blended learning settings.
Teaching, learning and assessment
Students can choose to submit either a dissertation or a reflective portfolio of their own professional practice. They may also complete the final stage off campus.
Work Placement
Candidates may be offered the opportunity to undertake a (salaried) ten month overseas teaching placement in conjunction with the final stage of the programme.
