ObjectivesThe programme aims to develop critical understanding of Digital Media Management (DMM) concepts, issues, tools and techniques so that students from a range of backgrounds are suitably equipped to pursue careers in either "pure" DMM industries (such as TV, news and radio) or industries that make significant use of DMM (such as advertising and e-tailers).
Entry requirementsEntry Requirements You should normally have a good Honours degree (or overseas equivalent qualification) and be motivated to develop a reflective understanding of the theory and practice of this complex and exciting subject area. If you have alternative qualifications and/or relevant industrial experience you may be eligible to study on the course. In this case we will interview you and may ask that you do some preparatory work for the course.

Professional Development and Research
This module aims to develop knowledge and skills to support the continuous learning and competence improvement necessary for ongoing success in commercial and academic environments. Example topics of study include: learning to learn, approaches to teamwork, approaches to critical evaluation and research methods.
Web Communication and Design
This module aims to develop a critical understanding of the history of the Web and the part it has played in the development of multimedia, games and digital entertainment. It focuses on the media-rich Web 2.0 and XML as the 'exchange currency' of the Web.
Digital Media Creativity and Management
This module examines the creative aspects of digital media and develops the knowledge and skills necessary for managing the process of designing and creating entertaining media. Topics covered include methods for designing digital media content for entertainment, the role of perception in digital media, managing the design and creativity process as a project.
Semantic Integration Frameworks
This module aims to help you develop a critical and practical understanding of concepts, standards and frameworks supporting semantic system integration, with a particular emphasis on Web 3.0 (the Semantic Web). This module also focuses on the use of XML-based standards for managing repositories of (media-based) semantically-annotated information.
Organisational Change and Business Improvement
This module aims to develop a reflective understanding, alongside the knowledge and skills necessary to the implementation of new procedures or technologies intended to re-align an organisation with the changing demands of its business environment (or to capitalise on business opportunities). Example topics of study include: understanding and justifying change, change management, managing technology risks, ethical issues in change.
Web Media Entertainment
This module aims to develop the knowledge and skills necessary for delivering digital media entertainment over the Web. Topics covered include techniques for pushing and pulling digital media over the web, applications of web media entertainment (eg IPTV), development of web-based digital media entertainment content.
Web Games Authoring and Management
This module aims to critically examine the use of digital media for games on the web and develop the knowledge and skills necessary for managing the process of designing and creating web games. Topics covered include roles for digital media in games, gaming abstractions, individual and societal effects of digital media in games, legal issues related to online and offline gaming.
Data Management and Business Intelligence
This module aims to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to support the development of business intelligence solutions in modern organisational environments. Example topics of study include issues in data/information/knowledge management, approaches to information integration and business analytics. Practical aspects of the subject are examined in the context of the SAP Netweaver and Business Warehouse environment.
Dissertation
Your dissertation is an opportunity to build expertise in an area that is of particular interest to you and in which you may want to specialise. The dissertation not only showcases your project management and subject specific skills to potential employers, but also serves as valuable experience and a solid building block for those wishing to pursue a PhD on completion of their MSc.
