  • Course description

    Learn all the key elements of fashion design.

    This course offers you the chance to learn all the key elements of Fashion Design principles and concentrates on the development of ideas from well-explored research and how to transform these into a fashion collection.

    Starting with your initial ideas you will first establish the purpose of your collection and the market you are aiming at. The next step will be to find a theme to stimulate a visual interpretation followed by in-depth research. With guidance from your tutor and supported with your research; you will develop a capsule collection of 6 outfits, giving consideration to the right choice of fabric, colour and silhouette that will be presented in a critique at the end of the course.

    Through a series of practical workshop sessions, this course will cover:

    • Understanding the design process
    • Developing mood boards
    • Designing from draping techniques on the stand
    • Basic figure drawing techniques and illustration
    • Developing a colour palette through an awareness of current trends and predictions
    • Fabric awareness
    • Selecting appropriate fabrics for the market/designs developed
    • Communicating your design ideas in a creative and logical way
    • Discovering how to build a fashion collection that is well balanced and innovative

    This course is suitable for students wishing to explore their creative potential through Fashion Design and for those students wishing to pursue a career in the Fashion Industry and move onto Higher Education.

    WHAT YOU NEED TO BRING:

    A4 or A3 Sketchbook (cartridge paper), A4 or A3 Layout Pad, Drawing pencils (2H, 2B, H, HB), Notebook, Paper scissors, Glue stick, Eraser, Coloured media (watercolour paint, coloured pencils, magic markers), Old magazines to cut up for inspiration.
