Dermatology Skills and Treatment MSc, PgDip, PgCert

  • Objectives This flexible programme helps to provide practitioners with a specialist interest with contemporary, specialist dermatology knowledge and skills and has been developed in response to recent national initiatives to shift dermatology from secondary to primary care. This postgraduate programme offers you the opportunity to develop or extend an expertise in established and rapidly developing areas of dermatology. You will broaden your knowledge and practical skills in minor skin surgery, recognition and diagnosis of skin lesions and management of common chronic skin diseases.
  • Entry requirements If you already have a postgraduate dermatology qualification you may be able to transfer existing credits to ‘fast track’ through this programme to achieve an MSc Dermatology Skills and Treatment.

    This programme will be taken as part of your CPD and will enhance the specialist role of: GP’s GP registrars, FY1/FY2 doctors and dermatology SpRs; Practitioners with a special interest GPwSIs and pharmacists; Dermatology nurses including those working in primary and secondary care; Other Allied Health Professionals working in related disciplines.

    Teaching methods

    Teaching consists of seminars, tutorial, lectures and practical skills workshops. The programme is taught by Consultant Dermatologists Veronique Bataille and Julia Schofield who have experience of teaching in this subject area. Other external subject specialists make a major contribution to this course.

    Modules are assessed by a combination of written coursework, case study presentations and clinical examinations (OSCE). To complete the masters degree you will write a substantial piece of written work (8,000 – 10,000 words) that will be an evaluative project related to dermatology practice and be profession specific.
