You do not need any academic qualifications, however you will need to be working as a dental nurse and have at least 6-12 months experience. You must be well organised, have a mature approach to your studies.

    Content details
    This course is for dental nurses who are working towards the National Certificate in Dental Nursing. The units . The course is designed to cover theoretical and practical aspects of dentistry and associated subjects such as dental and general anatomy and physiology. The 'Record of Experience' has now been introduced as part of the syllabus. A named mentor will assist you to completed this under her supervision. To register with the National Examining Board for Dental Nurses (NEBDN) you will have to be successful in both the examinations and full completion of the 'Record of Achievement'.

    How is the course taught
    The differentiated teaching methods use a variety of strategies for instance interactive lecture, group work using e-learning. The dental lab is fully equipped with the dental equipment where you will learn the appropriate use of these from your tutor in a safe environment.

    Assessment
    Course work, Completion of Portfolio -Record of Achievement with a named mentor for clinical practice.

    Course leads to
    Your name will appear on the National Register and you will be able to gain post qualification certificates in Diploma in Dental Hygiene, Diploma in Dental Therapy. These two pathways can be combined. As a registered nurse you will be able to work in dental practices and dental hospitals.
