Customised Pattern Cutting and Fitting - Course

  • Course description

    You will learn how to take measurements, and apply them correctly to develop your own pattern using personal direct body measurements.

    You will be introduced to the basic techniques of draping a neckline, a pattern cutting method used frequently by designers by draping fabric into a body form on a stand.

    You will learn how to use specialist equipment and will be taught pattern terminology and the correct written and drawn information that should applied to finished patterns.

    Using block pattern manipulation techniques, pivoting of darts and development of drafts, you will go on to learn and put into practice various seams and fabric choices.

    Technical advice will also be given on pockets and garment openings as well as grain lines, notches and selfidges when laying out pattern pieces.

    A basic amount of calico and pattern paper for making a practice garment, known as a toile, will be supplied during the course. Further calico can be purchased from the tutor.

    Entry Requirements

    Previous basic dressmaking experience would be beneficial although no patternmaking experience is necessary for this course.

    What you need to bring

    Dressmakers pins, tape measure, paper and fabric scissors, pens and pencils, notebook, 2b drawing pencils and a sketchbook.

    • Monday 11th January to 14th March 2016
    • Saturday 9th & 23rd January, 6th & 20th February and 5th March 2016
