Entry requirementsEntry requirements Access courses are open to all adult learners who have sufficient motivation, literacy and numeracy, regardless of sex, disability, or ethnic origin. No GCSEs are necessary, but all Access to HE applicants complete an initial diagnostic test to determine if an offer of a place can be made. We may suggest that you undertake a 'Pre Access' course namely the Progression Diploma, if diagnosis of your initial diagnostic test indicates that this would be beneficial. Please note that universities in Britain cannot accept applicants on a student visa for training in nursing and midwifery. Please check with the college or university for full details.

This course tends to appeal to those making a career change or those returning to work after having children.
This course is approved by relevant bodies as a suitable entry qualification for courses such as the Diploma in Nursing or Midwifery Training.
Course content
The core part of the course includes: English, Maths, Science and IT. In addition the study of sociology and psychology is undertaken.
Study skills and personal development units support the academic units.
Teaching and assessment
Mostly by assignments, but with some examinations, to prepare for assessment in Higher Education.
One must also expect a considerable amount of homework.
Progression
Most students choose to progress on to study for the Diploma or Degree in Nursing Studies at University and go on to achieve State Registration as Paediatric, Adult, Mental Health Nurses or Midwives.
